It’s amazing how fast the season rolls by! Next weekend begins the NYSMA Tour Series and the first race is at the biggest track in the series, the 740-foot monster at Sodus Microd Club. If you have never been there you are really missing out. It’s not only a friendly club with a great facility; it’s a fun track to race where you’ll reach your fastest speeds in the state. Sodus always has a family fun event associated with the weekend as well so to all the touring families, good luck and have fun.

The local competition has been outstanding. Some drivers are starting to assert themselves but the season points chase is still being hotly contested in most all the classes.

At home the work continues. Many Thanks to Dean Rypkema for acquiring and installing the new lights. Dennis VanSlyke for his hours of work getting power in the pits. Laurie Comfort for stepping up as head scorer. Kathy Hatfield for running the concession and all the officers and directors for their commitment to the club. Also a big thank you to all the others that show up every week to help mow, clean and maintain the track and grounds. Three of our six scheduled Chicken BBQ’s are also in the rearview mirror and while they are getting done, more help would certainly be appreciated. I’d like everyone to ask themselves what they are contributing to the club outside Friday night. If you have never mowed, worked a BBQ or cleaned a bathroom I urge you to pitch in and help. This is your club, be proud!

For the first time in many years we are hosting a swap meet on April 24. Special thanks to Jim Mailler for taking the lead in organizing it. We hope this will become an annual event and the success of this year’s affair will certainly tell us how good our chances are. If you are looking to sell, buy or swap, please come out and support it.

The 2010 race season has not started yet, but members are busy planning for an exciting year to come. The schedule is set and there is still plenty to do before we race and here is the line up:

Get your sled out and join us February 28th on our first ever MMC Snowmobile Poker Run! It’s sure to be a great time and there will be lots of food and fun at the trails end at Roman Village in Groton.

We have several Chicken Barbecues planned at Doug’s Powersports and need members to volunteer to help…Speaking of help, please clear your schedule for track clean up starting April 11th and running through the 24th. Remember we re-paved the track and there is considerable dirt work, seeding and general clean up to be done.

The bottle and can drive continues, we have candy to sell and we are planning another Applebee’s Flapjack Fund raiser. All this helps maintain the club’s strong financial standing so come on out and help.

Joining in on these activities outside racing does more than help the club. It’s is a great way to build friendships that will make the summer all the more fun. I look forward to seeing you all soon.

October 19, 2009

What a great year we had! Our banquet put the final chapter down on fun, safe and competitive 2009 race season. A big thank you goes out to Julie Sherwood and all of our dedicated scorers, officers and directors. I’d like to especially thank to Steve Wood for his work on the BBQ pit and grounds in addition to Kathy and Lloyd Hatfield for running the concession. All are hard, time consuming jobs that are critically important to the club and we can’t thank them enough!

Welcome to all the new board members and officers. We’ll be getting to work as a group right away. In fact plans are already underway toward making 2010 better than ever. We have approval to resurface the track and that work should be commencing within the next week or two. We will also be purchasing an additional lawn mower a new laptop for our record keeping.

At the most recent NYSMA meeting the two hot topics were a proposed tire rule and the introduction of the Animal motor to entry-level racers. The tire rule is designed to reduce the cost of racing by making a harder, more durable tire the spec. The Animal motor is something Briggs and Stratton has been promoting for several years and the concern is that flathead parts could become harder to get as time goes on. In the end both proposals are intended to make racing more affordable and will be tested and discussed more in future NYSMA meetings.

Thanks again to all our race families. Please continue checking this site, as we will be posting news and alerts as we get them. See you in the spring!
